What makes it easy or more difficult to quit smoking.
easier to stop:
being happy
having masses of fun
being with others who do not smoke
exercising
eating well
more difficult:
being unhappy
frustrated or angry
being hungry
being with others who smoked cigarettes.
being bored
being alone
having cigarettes around
Finally:
When I chose the most positive choice in the face of the greatest negative I increased my strength far beyond the power of the cigarette habit. I was reclaiming my life.
Right at the bottom at the biggest test I had to do something about what I was feeling, and when I did I came back to life by enormous amounts.
At the end I didn't even want a cigarette. After a while, even in the severest difficulties it wasn't an option which sprang to mind.
I had created a new habit of living.
I had quit and become free.
Some months later another benefit followed.
Some months later I found that a small mini delay period, automatically occurred if I was about to do something which was less than optimal for me. The habit I had consciously installed of stopping myself from habitually having a cigarette had migrated to other areas of my life where I could also benefit from delaying a course of action and then choosing the best ways forward.
